It should ring, with a catch.

One setting changes how it rings. Read it below.

  • Do Not Disturb or a Focus

    Rings

Clock alarms ring in Do Not Disturb and every other Focus.

  • Silent mode

    Rings

Silent mode quiets calls and texts, not Clock alarms.

  • AirPods or headphones

    Rings, with a catch

Apple says it plays on the speaker and your headphones at once. But some people say alarms, especially songs, played only in their earbuds. Pick a built-in tone, and don't rely on earbuds.

Will my alarm go off?

An alarm that keeps ringing until you're up.

Bed Quitter is an alarm that keeps ringing until you get out of bed and move. You pick one of seven moves, your phone's camera counts a few reps, and no photo or video from the camera leaves your phone.

Questions people ask

Will my alarm go off on Do Not Disturb?

Yes, from the Clock app. On iPhone, Apple says alarms ring in Do Not Disturb and every Focus. On Samsung and Pixel, Do Not Disturb has its own Alarms switch. It's normally on, so check it once. On Pixel, check Bedtime or any other mode that's on too.

Will my alarm go off on silent?

Yes, from the Clock app. Silent mode quiets calls and notifications, not alarms. On Samsung, make sure one Clock setting is off: Silence alarms when system sound is off. Some phones word it as alarms and timers vibrating only.

Will my alarm go off if I'm on FaceTime?

Not confirmed. Apple doesn't say. Reports from older iOS versions say the alarm still sounds during phone calls, sometimes loudly in your ear, and one old answer says it still goes off during FaceTime. Set a 2-minute alarm during a FaceTime call to find out on yours. On Samsung, an alarm during a call only beeps until you tap Dismiss: Samsung says so for the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Z Fold6, and owners of other Galaxy phones report the same.

Will my alarm go off if my phone is off?

No. A phone that's switched off, or out of battery, can't ring. Charge it overnight and leave it on.
