Try it: 5 squats
Squat in front of your camera and watch each one counted, by the same rules Bed Quitter's alarm uses on your phone. Nothing from the camera is recorded or sent.
Before you start
- 1Stand your phone up somewhere steady, or face your laptop.
- 2Step back until it sees you head to feet.
- 3Stand tall, sit back until your hips are down near knee height, then stand tall again.
Stop if anything hurts, and clear some space around you first.
Your browser will ask to use the camera. Start also loads the body finder, up to 20 MB the first time.
The camera demo needs JavaScript. Turn it on, then reload the page.

You're up.
That's how Bed Quitter stops an alarm: your phone's camera counts your squats, or one of six other moves, and the ringing stops on the last one. You pick how many: 3 to 20 reps, or 30 to 120 steps if you jog in place.
Camera off
The camera is off for this page.
Paused while you were away
The camera turned off when you left this page. Your count is kept: 0 of 5.
- The app's own rules
- The same squat rules as the app, checked against its recorded squats.
- Stays on this device
- Each picture is looked at on this device, then thrown away. Nothing is saved or uploaded.
- Loads when you tap Start
- Up to 20 MB the first time, from bedquitter.app itself.
Try it: 5 squats
Squats like these stop the alarm.
Bed Quitter is an alarm that keeps ringing until you get out of bed and move. You pick one of seven moves, your phone's camera counts a few reps, and no photo or video from the camera leaves your phone.
You're on the list. We'll email you once, at launch.
How a squat counts
This page uses the squat rules from Bed Quitter's app, copied line for line. On squats recorded on an Android phone and an iPad, it gives the same counts as the app's own tests.
| Counts | Stand tall, sit back until your hips are down near knee height, then stand all the way up again. |
| Won't count | A small dip with your hips staying high, or a first squat started from the bottom. |
| Holds | Standing and the low point each have to hold for three looks of the camera, about a fifth of a second, so a wobble is not a squat. |
| Starts over | If the camera loses your shoulders, hips, knees or ankles for a moment, or one reaches the edge of the picture, the squat in progress starts over. The ones already counted stay. |
What the camera sees stays here
Nothing loads for the camera until you tap Start. Then your browser asks to use it, and a body finder from Google runs in this tab, on this device. It finds your shoulders, hips, knees and ankles in each picture for the counter, and then the picture is thrown away. No photo, video or body points are saved, uploaded or shared.
The body finder is made to send Google usage figures, such as how fast it ran, though never pictures. This page blocks them, so they aren't sent. The camera turns off when you finish, tap Stop or leave the page, and analytics only hears that the demo started, finished or couldn't run. The details are in the privacy policy.
Questions people ask
Does the camera record me?
No. Each picture from the camera is looked at in this tab, on this device, to find your body, and then it is thrown away. Nothing is saved, uploaded or shared, and the body finder's usage reports to Google are blocked on this page.
Why didn't a squat count?
Sit back until your hips are down near knee height, then stand all the way up. A small dip doesn't count, and if the camera loses your knees or feet for a moment, or they reach the edge of the picture, that squat starts over. A lamp on and no bright window behind you help the camera see you.
Is it the same as the app?
The counting rules are the app's, and they give the same counts as the app's own tests on its recorded squats. The body finder is different: the app has its own on your phone, and this page uses one from Google that runs in your browser, so now and then a squat may count on one and not the other.
Does it work inside Instagram or Facebook?
Not confirmed. An app's built-in browser decides whether a page may use the camera. On Android it stays off unless the app allows it, and on iPhone it can ask you, if the app itself may use the camera. Meta doesn't publish what Instagram and Facebook do, so if the camera doesn't start, open this page in Chrome or Safari.
Why does it download 20 MB?
That's the body finder, the part that finds you in each picture. Up to 20 MB loads only when you tap Start, from bedquitter.app itself, and your browser keeps it for next time. On mobile data, you may prefer Wi-Fi.
What if it says my device is too slow?
Counting needs about 8 looks a second. More light helps, since cameras slow down in the dark, and so does closing other tabs and apps. If an older phone can't keep up, try a laptop.
