Samsung alarm not going off?
Fifteen fixes for Galaxy phones, most likely first. Tick each one as you check it, then test your alarm in 2 minutes.
Checked against Samsung's guides for One UI 8.5 on 4 and 5 November 2026. Menu names can differ a little on older phones.
Clock and phone settings
Start here. Fixes that open Clock are for Samsung's own Clock app.
-
Check Clock's volume setting
Since One UI 7, Clock can use one volume for every alarm or a different one for each. Check which is on, then set the volume.

Check your Sleep mode
Sleep mode can turn on Do not disturb with its own options. Samsung doesn't say if alarms get through, so check, then test.

Disconnect earbuds at night
Samsung doesn't say where the alarm plays with earbuds connected, and one owner says it skipped the speaker. Turn Bluetooth off at night, or test with them connected but out of your ears.

Turn off Mute with gestures
It's usually on. Covering the screen or turning the phone face down while the alarm rings mutes it, and it rings again after the snooze time.

Restart if it only beeps
Some Galaxy owners say their alarm only beeped, with a note that it can't play during a call, when no call was on. A restart fixed it until their next call. Samsung hasn't said why.

-
Turn off automatic restarts
Some owners say alarms stayed quiet after an overnight restart until they unlocked the phone. Turn off Restart when needed and Restart on schedule. Samsung says a restart can still happen with both off.

Check Alarms and reminders
If it's off, the app's alarms are cancelled. Some alarm apps get it automatically and may not be listed. If yours is listed, make sure it's on. If it isn't listed, run the 2-minute test. Moved to a new phone? Check again.

5 fixes are for other problems.
Test it in 2 minutes
Set an alarm for
Pick a time two minutes from now.
- 1Set it in the alarm app you wake up with.
- 2Turn on what you'll have on tonight, like Do Not Disturb or silent.
- 3Lock the phone and put it face down.
Did it ring on time?
It rang with tonight's settings.
A short test can't catch everything, like an overnight restart or a flat battery. Keep the phone charging, and test again after a software update or a new alarm app.
Still not ringing? Try these in order.
- 1Restart the phone, unlock it once, then run the test again.
- 2Test with Samsung's Clock app. If it rings and your app doesn't, recheck the fixes under Alarm apps.
- 3Set a backup alarm on a second device tonight while you sort it out.
Known bugs right now
Bugs that stop or quiet the phone's own alarm, whether they're fixed, and what to do. A lone forum post never makes this list.
-
During a call, the alarm only beeps
By design
If a call is on when the alarm goes off, Samsung's Clock shows a pop-up and beeps until you tap Dismiss, even on Vibrate or Silent. A beep may not wake you.
- Which versions
- One UI 6.1.1 and later. Samsung says so for the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Z Fold6.
- Fixed yet?
- Samsung says this is how it works.
- What to do
- Hang up before you sleep.

We found no Samsung notice or press report this year of a Clock alarm that doesn't ring or makes no sound on One UI 8 or 8.5. Owners do report problems, so run the 2-minute test.
Samsung fixes
An alarm that checks these for you.
Bed Quitter checks your Samsung's battery settings, walks you through the rest, then keeps ringing until you get out of bed and move.

Why Samsung phones stop alarm apps
To save battery, One UI can put a background app to sleep when you haven't used it for about 3 days. A sleeping app's alarms are limited. After about 16 days it goes into deep sleep and can't run in the background at all.
Adding an alarm app to Never sleeping apps takes it off those limits, and setting its battery to Unrestricted stops your phone holding it back. Samsung doesn't say whether its own Clock app is ever put to sleep, so check that Clock isn't in Sleeping or Deep sleeping apps either.
Questions people ask
Why is my Samsung alarm not making a sound?
Check three things first: the switch beside Alarm sound on the alarm itself, the Clock setting Silence alarms when system sound is off (on some phones, alarms and timers vibrating only), and Mute all sounds in Accessibility. Any one of them can keep an alarm quiet.
Will my Samsung alarm go off on silent or vibrate?
Yes, unless one Clock setting is on. Mute and Vibrate don't stop alarms by themselves. But with Silence alarms when system sound is off switched on, they silence alarms too. Some phones word it as alarms and timers vibrating only. Find it in Clock, More options (⋮), Settings, and turn it off.
Why does my alarm app work on other phones but not my Samsung?
Samsung adds its own battery limits on top of Android's, like putting unused apps to sleep. Set the app's battery to Unrestricted, add it to Never sleeping apps, and check Alarms and reminders.
Do I need to do this again after an update?
Run the 2-minute test after each One UI update. Updates add and move settings, like the alarm groups in One UI 8, so a quick test is the surest check.
