Wake up earlier planner

Move your alarm a little at a time, with your bedtime moving with it. You get a day-by-day plan and a calendar file to follow, or start from a preset for an exam morning, a short night or the clock change.

With JavaScript on, you can start from a preset for an exam morning, a short night or the clock change, and the plan uses your own dates.

Bed Quitter is an alarm that keeps ringing until you get out of bed and move. You pick one of seven moves, your phone's camera counts a few reps, and no photo or video from the camera leaves your phone.

How the planner works

It splits the gap between your wake-up time now and the one you want into steps, 15 minutes each unless you pick another size. You hold each step for a few days, then move on. The last step lands exactly on your new time, even when it's a shorter one.

Your bedtime moves by the same amount, set so you still get the sleep you picked, plus about 15 minutes to fall asleep. It works the other way too, if you want to wake up later.

Exam mornings

On an exam morning you need to be at the centre when reporting opens, not just awake. The Exam morning and College exam presets work back from that time: minus your travel, minus the time you take to get ready.

Then they move you there 15 minutes a day, starting about two weeks ahead, which is how the American Academy of Sleep Medicine advises getting ready for an earlier school start. A bigger move starts sooner, so the new time is in place by the night before the first exam day.

JEE Main 2027From NTA’s bulletin
Session 1

Exams on 20–24 and 28 January 2027.

Exam city slip 30 December 2026, admit card 13 January 2027.

Session 2

Exams on 2–7 April 2027.

Exam city slip 12 March 2027, admit card 25 March 2027. NTA will confirm Session 2 in a separate notice.

Shift 1

Exam 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon IST, 30 minutes longer for B.Arch with B.Planning.

Entry and checks from 7:00 AM; the gate closes at 8:30 AM.

Shift 2

Exam 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM IST, 30 minutes longer for B.Arch with B.Planning.

Entry and checks from 1:00 PM; the gate closes at 2:30 PM.

NTA asks candidates to report 2 hours before the exam, and lets no one in after the gate closes. Your own date, shift and city are only on your admit card, and NTA holds no re-test for a missed exam, so until you know your day the preset gets you ready for the first possible one, 20 January 2027 for Session 1, and keeps the new time through the session's last. Once your admit card is out, pick your own day under My exam day. NTA's September calendar had other January dates; its notice of 26 October 2026 replaced them.

Shift 2 starts at 3:00 PM, with entry from 1:00 PM. When your usual wake-up already leaves time to get ready and travel, the preset says so rather than planning a later one.

Most teens need 8 to 10 hours of sleep (AASM, endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics; NHS), and adults need 7 or more (AASM). Compare your plan's bedtimes with those: the Exam morning preset plans for at least 8.

After a short night

A short night before an early start happens. Here's what the NHS and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine suggest for the day after, and for the night before an exam.

Get up on timeDon't sleep in after a bad night. Keep to your usual hours (NHS).
Light firstGet outdoor light soon after waking. Morning light helps set your body clock (AASM).
Short napsIf you nap, keep it under an hour and before 3 PM (AASM).
Tea and coffeeNone in the afternoon or at night (AASM). The NHS says none for at least 6 hours before bed.
DrivingDon't drive when you feel sleepy (NHS).
TonightGo to bed at your usual time, with half an hour or so to wind down first (NHS).
Before an examCramming all night is usually a bad idea. Sleep helps far more than panicky last-minute study (NHS).

If exam stress feels like too much, in India you can call Tele-MANAS, the Health Ministry's mental health helpline, free on 14416, day or night.

Before the clocks change

The Clock change preset finds the next change in your time zone and moves your bedtime 15 or 20 minutes a night over the nights before it: earlier before the clocks go forward, later before they go back, as the American Academy of Sleep Medicine advises. Your alarm moves with it, so the first morning on the new time feels like the last one on the old.

When do the clocks change?

Tips that keep it going

Weekends countStay within an hour of your new time, or Monday undoes the week.
Light firstGet daylight in the first half hour. It tells your body clock the day has started.
Screens downDim the lights and put the phone away for the last half hour before bed.
First alarm onlySnoozing hands back the minutes you just moved.

Questions people ask

How do I start waking up earlier?

Move your alarm 15 minutes earlier, keep it there for a few days, then move it again. Move your bedtime by the same amount each time, or you just sleep less.

How long does it take to wake up an hour earlier?

About two weeks at 15 minutes every 3 days: four steps, with the new time from day 10. Every day is faster but harder to keep up; once a week is gentler.

What time should I wake up for a 9:00 AM JEE Main exam?

Work back from 7:00 AM, when entry opens for Shift 1: take away your travel time and the time you need to get ready. With 60 minutes of travel and 45 to get ready, that's 5:15 AM. The gate closes at 8:30 AM, and NTA lets no one in after it.

How early should I start getting used to an exam wake-up time?

About two weeks ahead, moving bedtime and wake-up 15 minutes a day, which is what the American Academy of Sleep Medicine advises before an earlier school start. A bigger move needs longer, and the Exam morning preset starts sooner when it does. Keep the new time every day, weekends too, until the exam.

What should I do after a short night before an exam?

Get up at your usual time rather than sleeping in, get outdoor light soon after waking, and keep any nap under an hour and before 3 PM. Skip tea and coffee later in the day, don't drive if you feel sleepy, and go to bed at your usual time. Cramming all night is usually a bad idea: the NHS says sleep helps more.

Should I change my wake-up time all at once?

You can, but a big jump usually means a few rough mornings and an easy slide back. Small steps give your body clock time to catch up, so each new time feels normal before the next one.

What if I miss a day?

Don't start over. Get back to the step you're on the next morning. If a step feels hard after its days are up, stay on it a little longer before moving on.
