Will my alarm go off on FaceTime or a call?

Apple doesn't say for iPhone. Samsung says its Z Flip6 and Z Fold6 only beep, and owners say other Galaxy phones do too. Android likely keeps it as soft as the call. The safest plan is to hang up before you sleep.

Apple doesn't say. Reports from older iOS versions say it still sounds, sometimes loudly in your ear. Test a 2-minute alarm during a call before you rely on it.

What to do on each phone

No setting we could confirm lets an alarm ring out loud during a call, so the plan is the same on every phone: hang up first. Here's what else to know on each one.

Apple doesn't say what happens during FaceTime or a phone call. Test it once during a call with the 2-minute test below.

Samsung only says what its own Clock does during a call. Hang up before you sleep, or test a 2-minute alarm during a call.

Another alarm app

During any call, even a WhatsApp call, Android keeps an alarm about as loud as the call, where the call's sound goes. Google doesn't confirm this for Pixel, so hang up before you sleep.

Two things that can stop it

Falling asleep on a call

A call or FaceTime left open can run all night, so it may still be on when your alarm is due. End it before you sleep.

Beeping with no call on

Samsung

Restart if it only beeps

Some Galaxy owners say their alarm only beeped, with a note that it can't play during a call, when no call was on. A restart fixed it until their next call. Samsung hasn't said why.

Questions people ask

Will my alarm go off if I'm on FaceTime?

Not confirmed. Apple doesn't say what an alarm does during FaceTime or a phone call. Reports from older iOS versions say it still sounds during calls, sometimes loudly in your ear, and one old Apple Community answer says it still goes off during FaceTime. Test a 2-minute alarm during a call before you rely on it.

Will my Samsung alarm go off during a call?

Only as a beep. Samsung says the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Z Fold6 show a pop-up and beep until you tap Dismiss, and owners of other Galaxy phones report the same. A beep may not wake you, so hang up before you sleep.

Will my alarm go off on a WhatsApp call?

On Android, probably only softly. During any call, even a WhatsApp call, Android keeps an alarm about as loud as the call and plays it where the call's sound goes, like your earpiece. Google doesn't confirm this for Pixel. On iPhone, Apple doesn't say, so test a 2-minute alarm during a call.

What if I fall asleep on a call?

Then the call may still be on when your alarm is due. Samsung says a Z Flip6 or Z Fold6 only beeps during a call, and owners of other Galaxy phones say the same. On Android it's likely as soft as the call, and on iPhone it isn't confirmed. End the call before you sleep, or set a backup alarm on a second device.
